PictureWhat Can Cause a Furnace to Stop Working? - HVAC Solutions
This is a great question. Most homeowners and business owners don’t give their furnaces much thought. And as a result, they wind up with a broken furnace at the worst possible time. So, if you’re wondering what can cause a furnace to stop working, then chances are, you’ve experienced small signs of furnace damage already. But don’t worry. You may have caught those damages early, and it may not be too late to repair those damages! We’re here to help you identify the early signs of furnace damage, and we’ll even help you prevent future damages from occurring.

New to this blog series? We’re a team of HVAC experts based in Colorado Springs. We love educating people about all things HVAC so they can take better care of their units. So, in this blog post, we’ll find out what can cause a furnace to stop working. We’ll also teach you how to identify the early signs of furnace damage and how you can prevent future damages.

First, what are the early signs of furnace damage?

There are several signs that indicate furnace damage. However, we’re going to be talking about some of the most prominent signs. If you have noticed any of the following signs, then your furnace may be damaged:

  • Drafts or inconsistent heating throughout your home or place of business
  • Rooms that are always too hot and/or too cold
  • Rising energy bills
  • A “burned” smell coming from your furnace
  • An increase in dust around your home or place of business
  • A red or orange pilot light
  • Strange, persistent furnace noises
  • Difficulty starting the unit
  • Poor air quality

These are just a few signs of furnace damage. If you have noticed two or more of these signs, then you should get your unit inspected as soon as possible.

Now, what can cause a furnace to stop working altogether?

People often ask us, “what can cause a furnace to stop working completely?” While there is no one good answer to this question, there are a few things that can definitely lead to irreparable furnace damages.

To name a few:

  • Running your furnace 24/7
  • Clogged air filters
  • Lack of annual inspections and maintenance
  • A bad limit switch
  • Not cleaning the burners regularly
  • Dirt or other things block your furnace’s air flow

Worried that your furnace may be damaged? We’ll inspect it for you for free!

If you’ve noticed early signs of furnace damage, then you should get your unit inspected right away. Otherwise, the damages are bound to get worse, and you may have to have your unit replaced altogether! That’s where we can help.
